Employers are required to assess staff exposure to noise in the workplace under the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005.

Research estimates that more than 1.1 million people are exposed to noise levels above 85dB(A), and as a result 170,000 are suffering from tinnitus, deafness or other ear conditions. Over 17,000 suffered noise induced hearing loss (NIHL) in 2014 alone.
